Account Deletion & Data Removal Policy

This Account Deletion & Data Removal Policy explains how users can delete their ProTalkie account, what data is deleted, and how long the process takes.

This policy supplements our Privacy Policy, GDPR Rights, and CCPA/CPRA Rights.

1. How to Delete Your ProTalkie Account

You can request deletion of your account at any time directly inside the ProTalkie app:

Steps

  1. Open ProTalkie

  2. Tap Settings icon (bottom-right) to open Settings Page

  3. Tap Delete Account

  4. Confirm your deletion request

Once confirmed, your deletion request is immediately queued for processing.

2. What Happens When You Delete Your Account

When you delete your account, we:

Immediately:

  • Log you out

  • Mark your account for deletion

  • Disable message delivery to your account

  • Begin erasing associated data from backend systems

Within 30 days:

All personal data associated with your account is permanently deleted, including:

  • Your account information (name, phone number, profile details)

  • Your contacts sync data

  • Your authentication identifiers

  • Your device information

  • Your usage logs & crash diagnostics (where applicable)

  • Your push notification tokens

  • Encrypted media stored on cloud servers (AWS)

  • Any associated metadata

Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

3. What Happens to Your Messages and Media

ProTalkie uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE), meaning:

  • We do not have access to your message content

  • We do not store decryption keys

  • We cannot read or restore messages after deletion

When you delete your account:

  • Message content stored on our servers is deleted permanently (encrypted blobs removed from AWS)

  • Message content on other users’ devices remains unless they delete it — this is the nature of E2EE messaging

  • We cannot remove messages from recipients’ devices

4. Data We Cannot Delete

Due to technical and legal requirements, certain data cannot be removed even after account deletion:

4.1 Data Required for Security & Compliance

We may retain minimal, non-identifying technical logs for:

  • Security monitoring

  • Fraud prevention

  • Abuse detection

  • Legal compliance

These logs do not contain:

  • Message content

  • User profile data

  • Contact information

  • Encryption keys

4.2 Data Stored on Another User’s Device

We cannot delete:

  • Messages you previously sent (they are E2EE and stored only on the recipient’s device)

  • Media files recipients saved manually

4.3 Backups Stored on Your Device

We have no access to:

  • Local device backups

  • Phone OS backups (iCloud/Google backup)

These must be managed by you.

5. Recovery After Account Deletion

Once deletion is confirmed:

  • You cannot reverse the process

  • You must create a new account to use ProTalkie again

  • Deleted accounts cannot be restored

  • Deleted data cannot be recovered

This is a permanent action.

6. Timeframe for Deletion

We aim to delete all personal data within:

Standard Deletion Window:

Up to 30 days from the time of request.

In rare cases (system delays, legal holds)

Data deletion may take up to 90 days, limited to scenarios such as:

  • System integrity checks

  • Server synchronization delays

  • Legal or fraud investigations

We always minimize retention to the shortest period legally and operationally possible.

7. Verification Requirements

To protect your account, we may:

  • Require phone verification

  • Request identity confirmation

  • Reject fraudulent or unauthorized deletion attempts

We will never ask for passwords or sensitive personal details.

8. How to Request Deletion if You Don’t Have App Access

If you lost access to the phone or app, contact:

You must include:

  • Your phone number

  • Verification code (sent via SMS)

  • Confirmation that you want to delete your account

We may request additional verification for security.

9. Legal Exceptions

We may delay or deny deletion if:

  • Required to comply with law enforcement

  • Involved in active fraud or abuse investigations

  • Needed for safety/security reasons

We only retain the minimum legally required data.

10. Children's Accounts

If a parent or guardian contacts us to delete a child’s account:

  • We delete the account within 7 days

  • All associated data is permanently erased

  • We notify the guardian when completed
